Designing safe devices
Every day, we are exposed to electromagnetic fields (radio waves) generated by electrical devices and power lines. When the intensity of the electromagnetic field is strong enough, it can affect the human body. In our laboratory, we are working on this research with the engineering challenge of how to design safe electrical equipment and the scientific interest of how to set safety standards.
Safety Design for Electric Vehicles
There is a growing concern about the effects of human exposure to the electromagnetic fields generated inside the vehicle that more and more incorporated electric components. In addition, the safety of wireless power transfer (WPT) in electric vehicles has recently been attracting attention for its practical application. In our laboratory, we have established a simulation method that combines an electric vehicle model with a human body model to evaluate the safety of the human body exposure by calculating the current induced in passengers inside the vehicle through simulation.
It is expected that this development model will be used in safety design /
Safety assessment of wireless devices such as smartphones (including 5G)
With the remarkable development of communication technology in recent years, wireless communication devices such as cell phones are now used at frequencies higher than previously expected. In response to the urgent need to provide a scientific basis on the safety at high-frequency, our laboratory is simulating the temperature rise caused by radio waves using a human body model
The results of analysis have been adopted as the basis for World Health Organization (WHO) document on electromagnetic field exposure, the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guidelines, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard, and Japan’s radio wave protection guidelines.
